9.11.2010

When I looked at the calendar today and saw that it was September 11th, my first thought was, "Hey, it's Lisa's birthday!" Then, a split-second later, I thought, "9/11."

That's the first time since 2001 that I've reacted in that order, rather than conjuring the national tragedy first and Lisa second. And it's about damn time.

Is it because 9/11 has finally receded in my memory somewhat (even if it hasn't in the national memory)? Well, I'd like to think so. More likely, though, it's because I've been disgustingly disconnected from the outside world since school started. I've been really bad about reading news websites, watching the TV news...shoot, I haven't even seen the CNN headlines in a while (my laptop homepage, although I'm not sure why) because I've always got a browser open to Gmail or Facebook or something.

In any case, Happy Birthday to Lisa!!!

All I can say is that you're lucky. The news in the international political arena is, as always, stupid.

There was a big explosion in the Bay Area last week Thursday. It destroyed 50 homes and killed at least 4 people in basically one hour. A natural gas pipeline exploded in San Bruno, which is south of SF, close to SFO. The most infuriating thing is that residents reported a gas smell as early as a week prior to the event.
